About the Author
John Blaxland is a Senior Fellow in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, School of International, Political & Strategic Studies at the Australian National University. He is a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, the Royal Thai Army Command and Staff College, the University of New South Wales (BA Honours), Australian National University (MA in History) and the Royal Military College of Canada (PhD in War Studies). He has served in staff, instructional and intelligence postings, including as J2 of HQ Joint Operations Command, 3rd Brigade Intelligence Officer for the deployment to East Timor in 1999, exchange officer at the US Defense Intelligence Agency, and finally as Defence Attaché to Thailand and Burma/Myanmar from 2008 to 2010. john.blaxland@anu.edu.au.
