About the Author

Alison Hickman is a thirty-two year old strategic analyst.  She acquired an Honours degree in International Relations from Flinders University of South Australia, before moving to Canberra to work as a performance auditor with the Australian National Audit Office, where she participated in assessments of Defence’s large acquisition projects and international activities, including the Australian Defence Force deployment to East Timor.  In 2002, Alison commenced work in the Defence Organisation’s Strategy Group, where she worked in policy development and capability analysis until relocating with her family back to Adelaide in 2006.  There she took up her current position as Defence Strategic Analyst, in Strategy and Capability Integration Group with the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation in Edinburgh, South Australia.  This article represents the personal views of the author only.
